Magazzini Generali delle Tagliate: Rainieri’s Contribution to the Fire Safety of the Expansion
Fire protection design, Fire Safety Engineering and support during the execution phase: Studio Tecnico Rainieri guided the fire prevention process for the new Parmigiano Reggiano ageing warehouse in Montecavolo.

On 11 September 2026, the expansion of Magazzini Generali delle Tagliate (MGT), a Credem Group company, was inaugurated in Montecavolo di Quattro Castella, in the province of Reggio Emilia. The new building, built with an investment of over 7 million euros, adds 4,300 square metres to the site. The project is part of the facility’s development plan and of its collaboration with GranTerre, for which an operational area has been set aside.
Studio Tecnico Rainieri’s work
Studio Tecnico Rainieri handled the fire protection design for the expansion, combining the fire prevention project with support for the design of the building services. The assignment required integrating safety requirements with the specific needs of Parmigiano Reggiano ageing and with the economic balance of the project.
The aim was to fit the new warehouse into the existing complex, assessing the effects of the expansion on fire risk while also taking into account the need for business continuity.
A solution developed with Fire Safety Engineering

To address the complexity of the project, the Studio used Fire Safety Engineering, the performance-based engineering approach to fire safety. This methodology made it possible to develop a solution consistent with the characteristics of the warehouse and the requirements of the ageing process.
The process involved an in-depth technical dialogue with the Reggio Emilia Fire Brigade Command (Comando dei Vigili del Fuoco), at the end of which the methodology proposed by Rainieri was validated and accepted. The design assessments also considered business continuity aspects, to balance the protection of the activity with the continuity of the company’s operations.
From design to execution and the SCIA

The work continued into the execution phase, carrying the design choices into site supervision and supporting the selection of advanced technologies, materials and building-service solutions, up to the preparation of the fire safety SCIA (Certified Notice of Commencement of Activity).
This was a particularly important step for an expansion designed to hold around 60,000 new wheels of Parmigiano Reggiano. The solutions adopted were developed so that adding the new warehouse would not significantly affect the fire risk level of the existing compartments. Total storage across the site’s compartments now stands at around 300,000 wheels.
Fire prevention supporting growth
The project at Magazzini Generali delle Tagliate shows work that accompanies a business from the definition of its fire safety strategy through to its implementation. For Studio Tecnico Rainieri, design, dialogue with the authorities and support during execution are parts of a single process, aimed at reconciling safety, production needs and business growth.
